Job Summary

The Division of Humanities and Fine Arts at Keuka College seeks adjunct instructors to teach Music courses to a beginning level, general education student population. Courses may include Music Appreciation, American Musical Traditions, Keuka College Band, and private instrumental lessons on a variety of instruments (wind, strings, piano). We are looking for instructors who can support and contribute creatively to a growing program for students with a wide range of music abilities and interests. We value quality in teaching, and we thus seek enthusiastic faculty who value and enjoy working closely with an undergraduate population. Required: Master’s degree in Music; doctorate preferred. Essential Responsibilities
  • Instruct students in courses in the Music program, including any or all of the following:
    MUS 101 (Music Appreciation), MUS 201 (American Musical Traditions), MUS 140 (Band), and MUS 130 (Private Instrumental lessons)
  • Present a minimum of 1 concert per semester (Band)
  • Plan course instruction based upon approved syllabus, goals, and objectives
  • Design, administer, and grade essays, examinations, and applicable projects to accurately assess achievement of course objectives as identified in the syllabus
  • Provide clear documentation of student progress through regular feedback, academic warnings, and midterm progress reports as necessary
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and actively engage students
  • Maintain a minimum of three weekly office hours to meet one-on-one with students
  • Work with the Program Director to ensure instructional quality and program quality
  • Adhere to College policies and procedure
Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in Music; doctorate preferred
  2. Experience teaching music for students with a wide range of musical abilities
  3. Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom
  4. Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  5. Understand and behave with a high level of integrity and complete confidentiality at all times.
  6. Ability to be sensitive to and respond to needs/concerns of students, faculty, college staff and the public.
  7. Ability to work under pressure with a high tolerance for interruptions, and the ability to work with diverse groups of people.
